Learn how to play the gong and facilitate gong sound meditation sessions. Whether you are a beginner or already have some experience, this training will guide you through the essentials of gong playing, enhancing both your technical abilities and intuitive connection with the instrument.

Gong Meditation Training

15h YACEP (Yoga Alliance certified) continuing education course

The 15-hour Gong Meditation Training is a unique blend of group and individual training sessions designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of gong playing and the skills needed to facilitate gong sound meditation sessions. With some basic theory and plenty of practice, this is all the training you’ll ever need to begin your gong-playing journey.

Who is this training for?

Whether for personal growth or to share with others, this training is for anyone drawn to the transformative power of the gong: yoga teachers, sound healers, therapists, musicians, performers and anyone interested in sound. No prior experience with the gong or sound needed.

Structure of the training

The three modules of the training follow an ancient formula for learning coming from the Upanishads:

●  First stage (Shravana) – we listen without mental commentary and absorb the new information;
●  Second stage (Manana) – we analyse, reflect and use the mind to gain deeper understanding;
●  Third stage (Nididhyāsana) – we let go of the mind and connect to our intuition to finally blossom.
Module 1. Group training (4 hr): Shravana (listen)

The first module covers the basic theory of sound and sound healing, explores how sound impacts our physical, emotional, and energetic bodies, and shows how it can be used to guide our minds into a meditative state. You will learn everything you need to know about the gongs, including its history, use, manufacture and its different types and categories.

The practical part of the training introduces the basics of playing, where you will have an opportunity for hands-on playing time.

By the end of the first module, you will have all the tools you need to start practicing and playing the gong for yourself.

Theory overview:

●  Sound, sound healing & the science behind it;
●  History of the gongs;
●  Gong types & categories;
●  Types of mallets;
●  Gong stands;
●  Gong making & manufacturers;
●  How to buy a gong;
●  Literature.

Practice overview:
●  How to position yourself;
●  Priming the gong;
●  How and where to strike the gong;
●  Hung gong strokes & playing techniques.
Module 2. Individual 1:1 training (3 hr): Manana (reflect)
In the second module, you will expand your theoretical knowledge of sound and the gong, ask questions, and reflect on what you have learned so far.

You will have plenty of time to practice (after all, an instrument can only be learned by playing) and to work on your technique. We’ll introduce more advanced playing techniques and strategies, experiment with rhythm and volume, and create different sequences and scenarios.

By the end of the second module, you’ll be ready to start sharing your gong-playing skills with your family and friends.

Theory overview:

●  Harmonics;
●  Overtones, Undertones;
●  Cosmic octave;
●  Solfeggio Frequencies.

Practice overview:
●  Handheld gong strokes & techniques;
●  Playing the percussion points;
●  Working with rhythm;
●  Loudness & volume;
●  Creating a sound sequence.
Module 3. Individual 1:1 training (3 hr): Nididhyāsana (blossom)
You’ve learned the basics of playing and had time to practice. Now it’s time to blossom!

In the third module, you’ll integrate everything you’ve learned so far, then let go of that knowledge and start playing intuitively. We’ll add other instruments to the mix and let our creative juices flow. You will learn how to sequence a gong bath and a gong puja and, finally, you will create your own gong bath.

By the end of the third module, you will be ready to start hosting your own gong baths and gong sound meditation sessions.

Theory overview:

●  Sequencing a gong bath;
●  Gong puja;
●  Gong maintenance.

Practice overview:
●  Combining gongs with other instruments;
●  Building sequences into sessions;
●  Intuitive playing;
●  Create your own gong bath.
